I'm Riding For

Claire

Claire

Claire's experience didn't just change her life—it helped reveal who she is. Having faced her own diagnosis, surgery, and treatment, she has developed a deep compassion for children facing medical challenges. She hopes one day to be involved in helping and caring for children who find themselves in the same vulnerable and uncertain place she once was. That desire to turn her own struggle into hope for others is one of the many reasons I am so proud to call her my daughter.

My Story

22 Jun 2026

On February 5, 2023, the day after my daughter Claire's 9th birthday, our world changed forever.

Claire was diagnosed with a rare brainstem tumor. In the days and months that followed, we faced brain surgery, treatments, MRIs, uncertainty, fear, and countless prayers. Like so many families facing childhood cancer, we found ourselves navigating a world we never expected to enter.

But we also discovered courage.

Claire taught me what resilience looks like. She taught me how to keep moving forward, even on the hardest days.

Her journey also taught us the importance of research in a very personal way.

The treatment Claire received after surgery may not have been available had she been diagnosed just a year or two earlier. The advances that gave our family hope existed because researchers, doctors, patients, and families came before us. Every breakthrough and every new treatment option exists because someone chose to invest in research.

One of the things that makes me most proud as a mother is that Claire chose to donate the portion of her tumor removed during surgery for research. She knew it wouldn't help her directly. She simply hoped that what doctors learned from her tumor might help another child someday.

Even at nine years old, she understood something powerful: the hope we were given came from those who came before us, and she wanted to help create hope for the children who would come after her.

This September, I'm riding 300 miles—a mile for each of the approximately 300 children diagnosed with a brainstem tumor each year. Every mile is dedicated to the children fighting today, the families walking beside them, and the researchers working toward better treatments and cures.

Thank you for helping fund life-saving childhood cancer research and bring hope to families like ours.

My Challenge

  • Why This September Matters
    22 Jun 2026

This September, I'll be riding 300 miles in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer.

The timing couldn't be more meaningful for our family.

On February 5, 2023, the day after her 9th birthday, my daughter Claire was diagnosed with a rare brainstem tumor. Since then, our lives have revolved around surgeries, treatments, scans, appointments, and uncertainty.

This fall marks something we've never experienced before: Claire's first school year as a "normal kid."

Because of her illness and treatment, Claire has never had the opportunity to fully experience a typical school year with classmates, friendships, activities, and the everyday experiences most children take for granted. Now, more than a year into a treatment pause, she is preparing to enter middle school with excitement, hope, and a chance to simply be Claire.

    Research made that possible.

In fact, the treatment Claire received may not have been available had she been diagnosed just a few years earlier. The progress made by researchers gave our family options, hope, and time.

That's why I'm riding 300 miles this September—one mile for each of the approximately 300 children diagnosed with brainstem tumors each year. I'm riding in gratitude for how far Claire has come, in honor of children still fighting, and in support of the research that creates hope for families like ours.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.
