My Story

This September, I’ll be riding in the Great Cycle Challenge for the ninth year—because kids fighting cancer deserve every ounce of strength we can give.

This year, I ride for Kathy Brewster, my sister‑in‑law, who is facing lymphoma with courage. And I ride in memory of Nahid Hormozi, whose gentle spirit made the world softer. I recently hosted her grandchildren, Noor (12) and Zayn (9), for our “Camp Poole” weekend—canoeing, 54 holes of mini‑golf, Minions & Monsters, baking blueberry galette and brownies, zucchini bread, and crafting everything from potholders to a homemade pinball machine. Their joy reminded me why this cause matters so deeply.

Despite a summer of weather setbacks, I’m preparing to ride 300 miles. I’d be grateful for your encouragement—and your support.

Day 1 - hot.muggy 90° with 60% humidity. Went out around 6:45 just around neighborhood to get some miles in on day 1. Slow start!

Day 8 - I'm 19 miles behind schedule. Thought I'd make up today but wind gusts are 22 mph and I rode 10 miles alone. I don't like riding alone. I'm sure kids don't like having cancer either.
