Caitlin Duncan

Caitlin was a dear member of my church family and one of the most positive individuals that you would ever meet. A devout Christian, she devoted her life to Jesus and being a positive impact in the lives of everyone she met. She enjoyed listening to Christian music, and she loved her family and friends with all she had. She found out that she had a brain tumor at the young age of 16, she fought a long hard battle of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. Caitlin passed away at the age of 23. Although her life ended far shorter than it should have, she impacted the lives of many people in a positive and up-lifting way.

My Story

10 Sep 2026

In November 2017 I was 60 years old, 267 lbs and a type II diabetic. I began a health journey with the purchase of an e-bike working up to riding 700 miles in June 2018 for my first Great Cycle Challenge. I reversed my type 2 diabetes (14 years after diagnosis) and remain 100 lbs lighter.

I was diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer in October 2023. I had my first PET/CT scan - a technology which I helped develop - where I learned that my cancer had spread to lymph nodes. I began a new treatment the week it was approved by the FDA. I have my bladder and currently have no evidence of disease by imaging, circulating DNA and cystoscopy. I will reach 3 years since diagnosis in September - with my bladder intact and no evidence of disease.

I have an even stronger motivation as I enter my 9th Great Cycle Challenge: Cancer research funding is at risk. Children's cancers are different than most cancers which affect adults and unfortunately do not receive the same level of funding for breakthroughs such as that I am benefiting from. This is the need the Children's Cancer Research Fund serves and is more important than ever.

Means to achieve unity of purpose is a great concern these days - realizing a world where we don't lose children to cancer would seem a great place to start. Your generous donations are sincerely appreciated.
