I'm Riding For
Anthony Baker-LaViolette
Anthony was 7 when he got sick. We were told it was the flu, it was migraines, it was a sinus infection. Nobody really knew for sure until the doctors checked his optic nerve and told us something didn’t look right. An MRI revealed a brain tumor, and that started the downward spiral. We were given a diagnosis of brain cancer. I couldn’t even say the “C” word. He fought hard for two years against a demon that no child should ever have to worry about: chemotherapy’s, Blood Brain Barrier Disruption, radiation, and weight gain to name a few of the things he had to tolerate. On December 23, 1997 God called him home. I’m riding to raise money to keep his memory alive and to make a difference and fight kids’ cancer.
My Story
Anthony’s cancer journey started with headaches and vomiting. We went to several different doctors and were given multiple diagnoses: migraines, sinus infection, and the flu, but I kept pushing because he was getting worse. When an eye exam from an optical ophthalmologist revealed something wasn't right with his optic nerve, we went straight for an MRI and received a diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor. My healthy child had brain cancer.
Two days later, he endured an eight-hour brain surgery to remove the tumor, followed by countless rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, which was barbaric to his little body and didn’t kill the cancer from the microscopic feelers left from the surgery. Two years later, the cancer won, and God called him home.
I want to make a difference and stop this monster!
This September, I am again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support the Children's Cancer Research Fund, enabling them to continue their work developing lifesaving treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by donating to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve. There's no amount too small, and if you want to give in prayers for these children fighting for their lives, those are needed too.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.
