I'm Riding For

Robert Porcelli

Robert Porcelli

I vividly recall the day I met my friend Bobby in 7th grade, an unforgettable experience that has stayed with me forever. It was first period, Mr. Roberts' Social Studies class, and I was running late to my 1st period class at a new school. Mr. Roberts warmly greeted me at the door, and with uncertainty, I took my seat amidst unfamiliar faces. My attention was immediately drawn to a lively group near the far wall, where two boys, Bobby Porcelli and Chris Day, were laughing hysterically at something. As the day unfolded, our entire class would gather our belongings and transition from one classroom to the next. Bobby's personality effortlessly drew everyone in, and before long, I felt like I belonged in the group as well. Our bond grew stronger with each passing day, and it's no exaggeration to say we became the best of friends. Every day was a childhood adventure with Bobby. This daily routine continued for weeks, then months, and before we knew it, seasons changed. The four years of high school flew by faster than the two years of junior high. We spent our early summer working together at the Avon Inn, where Bobby's dad was the chef, before he embarked on his Army journey. We later worked together at Olympus Restaurant, Pudgies Pizza, and Mor-Wear Industries, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Though our paths diverged, and we found ourselves in different towns, pursuing different careers, our friendship remained unshaken. Bobby's presence at the hospital, mere hours after my first son's birth, was a testament to our enduring bond. We reminisced about old times, laughed, and acknowledged that life was taking us on different journeys. Though our conversations became less frequent, our friendship remained steadfast. Years went by, and Bobby became a father to a teenage son of his own. When I learned about his courageous battle with cancer, I felt a mix of emotions, with helplessness being one of them. Yet, even in uncertainty, I find solace on a bike.

My Story

15 May 2026

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

I have been involved with the Great Cycle Challenge since its inception.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support the Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.
