My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
This challenge also hits close to home for me. When my son was entering 9th grade, he went to a doctor's appointment for a physical. To make a long story short, the doctor found something that wasn't right. He needed surgery. None of the doctor's would actually say the C word, but I knew what they were thinking. We were lucky. His report came back negative. I will never forget how scary that time was, and we were the lucky ones. So many others aren't. My maternal grandmother died of colon cancer. My dad and uncle died from lung cancer. I've had several aunts and friends battle breast cancer. My husband has to see a dermatologist frequently for basal cell carcinoma. So helping to raise funds for cancer is personal.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to help them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
