Wow! 75 miles ridden so far! Considering before all of this I hadn't ridden in a long time, and certainly not of any notable distance. I am so glad to be a part of this challenge, and today I was reflecting on why this challenge is so important.
Too many families are touched by childhood cancer - and there are those that are battling instead of being able to be out and playing or riding bikes, chasing bugs, flying kites and just having fun.
Tomorrow (9/23) is a big day: there are generous sponsors that are matching funds for donations made during that day. That's an awesome opportunity to help really increase the impact.
I'll be peddling more, and my goal of 100 miles is closer than ever!
It's the start of the week, and many folks are a bit timid concerning Mondays in general. Think of it as a slate wiped clean and a new week rolling.
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna sneak a ride in today before my Red Cross appointment, and I think the weather might just cooperate too! I'm over halfway to my miles goal, but way short of my fundraising goal but confident it will all come together.
Well, the weather was a bit dryer than yesterday but still damp. I didn't get quite the distance in today that i had planned, and tomorrow is a platelet donation day at the Red Cross, so it'll be zero miles for that day (unless I can manage to sneak one in ahead of my appointment).
But for the ride I did get in, I saw a small herd of three adult deer, and also many riders of all ages out and about.
Well, the weather folks were off a bit. The rain certainly wasn't over. But I'm over the 50 mile mark, and that was my goal.
Learned something today: Riding with a dark solid color hoodie when there is a light film of sand on the wet pavement will leave a fairly suspect line straight up your back (no fenders on the bike). Definitely looked sketchy. Anyway, hoodie is working it's way thru the wash and I'm drying out.
It's been a bit of a butt kicking week, and honestly, I wrestled with pushing my ride off until tomorrow.
I'm glad I didn't, and that I didn't settle for just the 10 miles I was targeting ince I started peddling.
Came across a really neat feather that I absolutely had to circle around to pick up. I think it's a hawk feather, but I'll google-fu it in a second.
11.4 miles is what it finally said - who knows what I would have missed had I not pushed on.
