I'm Riding For

Anissa, Kalea, Noah, Cait, Andrew

"Cait Marie Naylor, who passed away on Jan 16, 2023, courageously battled Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare children's cancer she was diagnosed with in Nov 2019. Despite challenges of her illness, Cait lived with a spirit of gratitude, believing there was always something to be thankful for. She found joy in school, playing volleyball, baking, creating art, and spending time at the beach with her sister and friends. Her vibrant personality, kindness, and resilience touched all who knew her, and she is deeply missed. Cait's legacy lives on in the fight against cancer-one she would have wholeheartedly supported." -Jon (dad) "When I was 17, I got diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Beyond the chaos of an emergency room and the flurry of medical jargon being tossed around, there was one word I was able to pin down: cancer. Nothing changes your life quicker than being diagnosed with cancer. The next 2 1/2 years of my life were spent in & out of hospital rooms, constant doctor's visits, finishing essays in hospital beds, social isolation, & taking finals under the influence of pain killers. Straight-A student by the way. I was treated by a great team at Miller Children's Hospital in LB and I'm still in contact with a lot of my old nurses. The hardest part of fighting cancer is the mental anguish that accompanies.I had medications that were causing chemical imbalances in my brain on top of already being secluded from the public and all my friends. On my worst days, the thing that kept me going is remembering that I had an entire community behind me. A lot of people donated their time, money, and even did a t-shirt fundraiser. The generosity I received from my peers & community was inspiring. I knew I couldn't let all these people down who believed in me. I never missed an appointment or chemo treatment because if these people showed up for me, I needed to show up for them. Now at 23, I'm in remission and will graduate from CSULB c/o 2026 w/ a BA in Cinematic Arts."-Andrew

My Story

18 Aug 2025

"Anissa was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Nov. 2014 when she was only 14 years old. We discovered her tumor after a foot injury she attained while training for the 2014 LA Marathon. After months of doctor visits, we were told she had stage 4 cancer and the tumor was on her hip bone that was not operable. But Anissa was more than her cancer; she was kind, caring, intelligent. At 15 years old, we called her an old soul, for the resound advice she'd give all of us." -Ana (mom)

"In June 2018, big sister Kalea and little brother Noah were diagnosed with a type of brain cancer called medulloblastoma, just 13 days apart from each other. Over the next 4 1/2 years, they both fought it, went into remission, relapsed, fought it again, and then relapsed again. On Sept.1, 2022, Kalea passed away at the age of 10, and 3 months later, Noah passed away on Dec. 16, 2022 at the age of 8. Throughout their entire fight with cancer, they never let cancer or treatment dictate who they were or how they were going to live. Kalea and Noah were more than just siblings, they were best friends and the biggest supporters of each other their entire lives. Kalea loved playing sports, skateboarding, the beach, telling jokes, and drawing. She was always determined and focused, sweet with a little bit of sass, and watched over Noah. Noah loved swimming, and the beach, started skateboarding because his sister did, and loved cars and trains. He was always easy going, silly, happy for others, and loved being with his sister. They were our unicorns, siblings that didn't fight, missed each other terribly when one was in the hospital and one was home, and had a bond unlike anything else. They found the good in every day, even on the sickest of days, found joy in the simplest of things like eating ice cream with their cousins, and could have the "best day ever" whether it was at home or on vacation. We encourage people to live like Kalea and Noah did, with bravery, selflessness, and kindness." -Nohea (mom)
