My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.
John

Day 6
6 Sep 2025Today was rough!!the 30 mile trek didn’t seem that much different than yesterday in my mind. I arrived at Fairhope pier at sunrise. People out walking, biking & enjoying the beautiful weather. I think my legs were spent after making it to hwy 1. The trip back was brutal 😩. Going to rest up tomorrow & hopefully next week won’t be a disaster !!

Day 2
3 Sep 2025Second day of the great cycle challenge was great!! Beautiful weather in Mobile Alabama for an afternoon ride. I rode 20 miles & started at Mear state park on the mobile causeway. Beautiful campground on Mobile bay & nice straight flat roadway. Ride up Spanish Fort & then through Daphne. Traffic not pleasant in Daphne & not great bike path. We really need bike paths in Mobile Alabama! Made it back in time to take grandson to swim practice. Looking forward to tomorrow’s ride.

Day 1
1 Sep 2025Jumped on my Fuji bike this morning at 6:00 am. It was still dark but only minutes away from sunrise. The temperature was really nice for Mobile Alabama with a cool breeze we haven’t felt all summer. My goal was 25 miles for my first day of the challenge. Not bad for this 71 year old who has only recently gotten back on his bike. It’s Labor Day & the roads were clear. Rode to downtown & the riverfront & caught a nice sunrise!! Off to what I think is a great start!
