For my son, Liam, a survivor of bilateral retinoblastoma
My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? This cause is deeply personal for our family and too many other families across the world.
In September 2014, our world was turned upside down when our then 22-month-old son, Liam, was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma - a rare type of eye cancer. Within a few days of his diagnosis, he began chemotherapy treatments. He bravely faced multiple rounds of chemo, laser treatments and several surgeries - including one to remove his left eye to keep the cancer from spreading to his brain. Thanks to his incredible medical team, Liam's resilience and courage, and support from our family and friends, Liam entered remission in 2015.
2024 marks 10 years since his diagnosis (!!), and I'm happy to report that Liam has transitioned from remission to survivorship. He's a healthy, thriving 6th grader with a bright future ahead of him. We are deeply grateful, and yet the fight continues.
Right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. The children who do survive can face a lifetime of long-term side effects from the treatments that saved their lives and risks of recurrence and secondary cancers.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support can change lives.
Thank you.
