My Story
Cancer is out there, people. Kids are dying from cancer..Like a lot of kids are dying from cancer. It's time to hop on that bike saddle and save them.. ..
....okay, seriously, this could be a really good thing for me, and the fact that I could be motivated for something that benefits me and a good cause is super important to me. Hear me out, please.
Back in early June, I got really hurt on a bicycle when I collided with a deer. A lot of surgeries to save my arm from the elbow down. The surgeries are hopefully over, but it's not healed yet. It's going to be years of recovery, and I know it's not going to ever be truly good again. Still, I'm working hard on it. I used to bike to work in the spring, and I really enjoyed it. Then on June 4th I hit the deer. It was a horrible experience that kept me out of work for 2 months. I was very persistent to get back to work, and almost rushed it too fast.
I was walking 4 miles to work when I first started back, but after my last surgery 2 weeks ago and hard PT, I'm risking biking again.
So, I started biking to work last week, and I'm trying to get over my fear of wrecking again. Also, I need the exercise for my mental wellbeing. Exercise is important to me, and after being bedridden for 2 months, I need to shake this low self-esteem and depression. This will help me. Oh yeah, like the kids get stuff too... jk that's what's really motivating me.
I want to feel like I am a good person who deserves kindness because I'm trying to be. The fact that this challenge was presented to me at this time, is a great opportunity for me to focus on something positive. Positive that if I can raise money for kids who are struggling way more than me, a guy with 1st world problems... more like 1½ world problems, then I will feel like I can help others. It's important to me that you care about this. Believe in me. My arm is so behind still, but I'm going to work hard to keep getting it better and I'll ride the sh*t out of my bike for the kids.
