My Story
My cycling journey continues. That's good for keeping me in shape. Kids cancer continues. That's bad. We should have this solved by now. Again this year in the month of September (this is my 5th year), I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! As I get older and my body parts start to wear out, I have to be realistic about my cycling capabilities. I've got a reasonable goal of 500 miles which is about 125/week. So far this year, I've averaged 143/week. Travels have an impact however. You all responded so generously in past years with over $11,400 of investments in Cancer Research. Thank you! I understand that the economy and inflation are taking a toll on everyone's finances again this year. But, the need is still there.
Why am I doing this? Because, cancer not only kills adults, but it also kills children. We are a product of our environment and what we consume. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. When I think of my granddaughters possibly being exposed to an environmental hazard or the things in our food or their genetics possibly causing cancer in them, I want a cure to be there...ahead of time.
Kids should be living life being the people God created them to be.
So I am raising funds again this year through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve. You can donate a lump sum amount or pledge an amount per mile. Pledges per mile motivate me to ride more.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.

The Final Tally
30 Sep 2025Hey everyone. It’s September 30th…the last day of our fundraiser. Wanted to give you the final tally. We…that’s you and I….donated $3,669 this year. That is incredible. Way beyond my expectations and goals. Thank you!
Mileage total is 670 miles ridden for the month. I was hoping to ride some more today to get over the 700 hurdle, but I had a bit of a mishap last night in our MTB group ride. Cut my leg requiring stitches. Ouch! I’m thankful for friends and our great healer and creator for getting me thru this month. It’s been a challenge.
Thank you all again for your support and encouragement. Hopefully there are some new cures for kids dealing with cancer over the coming year as a result of your generosity.

Just about there
20 Sep 2025Well, I’ve got only 69 miles to go to reach my mileage goal. It’s been a challenge this year. Had a diverticulitis infection, hit my head on my bike hanging from the ceiling in the garage, and hurt my back shoveling gravel……all in the past few weeks. Thru it all, God has been so good to me healing my body. Thru your generosity, kids with cancer challenges will also hopefully be healed. Thank you all for your contributions. I’ll keep plugging along in the saddle to rack up as many miles as I can. This is the final push.
