I'm Riding For

Aaron Ingalls

Aaron Ingalls

Aaron Ingalls is a local high school golf coach who had surgery last October (2024) to remove a malignant brain tumor. He played football with my son Andrew at Lambuth University, and is married with three young children. Although his future health situation will be challenging, Aaron is surrounded by many people who love him, and is determined to overcome the obstacles confronting him. Let's all keep him and his family in our prayers, and give what we can to fight this beast called "cancer" in Aaron's honor!

My Story

12 Sep 2025

A little over a year ago, a doctor in Cleveland sliced open my chest, took my heart in his hands, and operated on it! Gross! I'm 66 years old, and after that surgery, I wondered if I would ever ride a bicycle again. Last Summer I could barely walk down my driveway, much less ride a bike. But my rehab and recovery has gone well, and I'm going to try to ride 200 miles in this September's GCC. I will be aided by an electric assist bike on some days, but the bike isn't the issue, and neither is my heart surgery. The issue is US...you and me...raising money to fight children's cancer. Cancer is an insidious disease, but it is a disease about which we can actually do something! We can fight this monster, and we can save lives and prevent suffering, but we have to pitch in and we have to work together. So let's do this thing!! Let's pray and contribute and support research, and in the words of the old hymn, "We shall overcome, we shall overcome. Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe, we shall overcome some day."

  • Beautiful morning!
    27 Sep 2025

As September comes to a close and the GCC ride ends, we are having glorious weather here in West Tennessee. Nothing like being out on a bicycle way out in the country alone with the beauty of God's creation! I'm hoping to reach both of my goals. I know I can get to the "200 miles ridden mark," but the $4000 goal is going to be more difficult. If you want to chip in, go for it! And thanks so much to all those who donated, encouraged, or helped with this effort in any way!

    Beautiful morning!

“Wow! How incredibly generous of you, Mark! Thank you so much for supporting this effort. As you are aware, money for research is hard to come by these days, so the efforts of organizations like the Children's Cancer Research Fund are more important than ever. Answers to the complexities of cancer don't grow on trees - you know the time and research it takes to make even small advances. But thanks to people like you, advances are indeed being made, and lives are being saved, and hope is being given. Thank you so much!”

Of course, the credit goes to all who contributed. But you are the "Over the top" person! Thank you so much! “Wow!! Thank you so much, Anonymous! That is quite a gift, and my guess is that you have been touched, or have loved someone who has been touched, by this horrific disease. I'm sorry. The darkness that cancer can bring is sometimes close to unbearable. But you have chosen to move forward with strength and the clear determination to help others who are suffering the same challenges. I may be completely wrong, but whatever may be the reason for your kind gift, you are making a difference and many will benefit. Thank you.”

“Hey Bob. It is my joy to be able to do something to help these children who are struggling with such a terrible disease. I know you all have been through it and can relate to what I’m saying. I well remember that evening when you all took off for Columbia with Amanda and left the other children with me until your parents could get there. I ate pizza with them in your kitchen and I must say that was The most terrifying meal I have ever experienced. Many times I’ve given thanks for the wonderful outcome you all had and I still do. I pray for you all frequently. Thank you.”

“Thank you so much for your encouragement and support Carol Sue. This kind of effort and giving is one thing we can do to improve the toxic environment in which we live these days. It may seem pointless at times, but our efforts are known and cherished by the gracious God who created us. Our hearts are not just for ourselves, but go out to all those who are battling cancer. And our minds continue to search for ways that allow us to be an influence of grace, and love, and compassion in this world. Thank you so much for your contribution and for the many, many ways you have loved and supported us through the years. I love you!”

If Chuck could do this so can I! Just the names “Westminster,“ or “West Point,” or “West Virginia “ (lots of “wests”) conjure up images of you guys in my mind. Please know that I love you and pray for you all often. Your children are in my heart and mind as well. Blessings to you and your family and thank you so much for the support.”

The funds are distributed to places like St. Jude, which is a place near and dear to my heart. I've been there for visits many times, and I've seen both the suffering and the miraculous healing that takes place there. All research facilities like St. Jude are hurting for funding right now, and it is our privilege to help them! Thank you so much!”

We can't cure cancer by ourselves, but we must remember that our small efforts are huge to those who receive them. Who knows what your gift will create, or discover, or heal. Thank you!”

Just imagine this: a year from now you may not even remember making the donation. But a year from now there will be children who are alive in part because of what you have given. That’s helping to give life and hope and light to situations that otherwise are very dark. And that, my dear, is very important. Thank you, and I love you!”
